I Fixed My Washing Machine!

I knew it wasn't going to be easy but, in retrospective, the task was harder than I thought it would be.

I Fixed My Washing Machine! Lauro

On Monday I completed the repair and testing of my washing machine, and I was pretty elated at having succeeded in my goal of fixing the thing.

I can't remember the exact date when it broke down but, according to some videos I took at the time, it was around late November from last year when I started tearing down the machine; I know it had to be broken since earlier that that, I now find it hard to believe.

It all started when the machine refused to wash a load of clothes, a blinking light on the panel was the only signal that something was wrong, my wife brought my attention to the issue and we hoped it could be resolved easily.

A quick search on YouTube gave me a possible diagnosis: the speed sensor went bad. It seemed like an easy fix, just replace the sensor, but the causes of it's failure could spell trouble... which they did: the sensor could have gone bad on it's own or, what was more likely, a leak could have shorted it.

I had already noticed, a few weeks earlier, that a small trail of water seemed to form under the machine sometimes, but I disregarded it as I was more concerned about other responsibilities.

I've owned this washing machine since late 2015, the thing is nearly ten years old, and it has broken down once before (around 2021) when a nylon lock broke, rendering the agitator unable to move. At that time we lived in another city, where a friend of my wife endorsed a trustworthy technician who fixed the machine cheaply and quickly. This time, no such luck would be available to us.

I don't think so, Lauro

I regard myself as someone who likes to learning, tinkering, and fixing things. I'm into the Do-It-Yourself culture. One of my favorite shows growing up was Home Improvement and it left it's mark in me in more ways than one. I wasn't going to try to put a turbine on the machine (I regard myself as more of an Al than a Tim, most of the time) but I wanted to try to fix it myself.

Down the YouTube rabbit hole I went. After watching some videos, I came to the belief that the leak had to be found in the transmission.

Until next time, thanks!
